“Nebraska: Safe Sex, We Mark the Sheep that Kick”
Hyatt hotels are our usual go-to spot. When we flooded our home and had to do renovations, we were in a Hyatt for 6 months. Now we have tons of points and have grown to love the brand. So, when we discovered a Hyatt hotel in the Haymarket area of Lincoln, Nebraska, it was a no brainer.
The Historic Haymarket District, an 1800s square where hay was bought and sold, boasts restaurants, unique boutiques, hotels, and even a microbrewery. Conveniently, the Hyatt Place Lincoln is located right there making dinner an easy walk down the block.
We took the obligatory photo with the historic train. I stood on the train unknowingly right next to the “Do not stand on train” sign. I’m such a rebel.
Our next plan was to get Runzas. What is a Runza, you ask? It’s a Nebraska masterpiece of a sandwich with beef, cabbage, and onions in a dough pouch. Think Hot Pockets but more legit. You can add cheese, mushrooms, bacon, and a number of other options to personalize your meat pocket of magic. We, however, did not plan accordingly. Too full and tired from the day, we fell asleep. But I needed to experience this German fast-food feast. Logic would suggest we make a short stop on the way home, but instead I thought ordering freeze dried sandwiches and cinnamon rolls and having them shipped to us was a better idea. Long story short, it was a good idea, albeit 10 times more expensive. The shipping allowed us to enjoy this treasure with friends, but it did not allow for all the different variations or to try the fries. I believe in my heart that this meat pocket and I will reunite somewhere down the road. Until next time.
Our Lincoln theme song:
Turn the Page
Metallica
On a long and lonesome highway
East of Omaha
You can listen to the engines moanin’
Out this one-note song
You’d think about the woman
Or the girl you knew the night before
But your thoughts will soon be wanderin’
The way they always do
When you’re ridin’ 16 hours
There’s nothin’ much to do
And you don’t feel much like ridin’
We just wish the trip was through
Here I am, on the road again
There I am, up on the stage
There I go playin’ the star again
There I go, turn the page
So you walk into this restaurant
All strung out from the road
And you feel the eyes upon you
As you’re shakin’ off the cold
You pretend it doesn’t bother you
But you just want to explode
Yeah, most times you can’t hear ’em talk
Other times you can
All the same old clichés
Is it woman? Is it man?
And you always seem outnumbered
You don’t dare make a stand
Make your stand
Here I am, on the road again
There I am, up on the stage
Here I go playin’ the star again
There I go, turn the page
Out there in the spotlight
You’re a million miles away
Every ounce of energy
You try and give away
As the sweat pours out your body
Like the music that you play
Later in the evenin’
As you lie awake in bed
With the echoes of the amplifiers
Ringin’ in your head
You smoke the day’s last cigarette
Rememberin’ what she said
What she said
Yeah, and here I am, on the road again
There I am, up on the stage
Here I go playin’ the star again
There I go, turn the page
And there I go
Turn that page
There I go, yeah, yeah
There I go, yeah, yeah
Here I go, yeah
Here I go, yeah
There I go
There I go
And I’m gone
